Please Note:
The FDA has not approved the use of CBD for treatment of any health related conditions other than epilepsy. The information below is not meant to be medical advice and should not be taken as such. As with any supplement you are considering, you should first discuss taking CBD (cannabiniol) with your primary care physician.

How do I calculate my CBD dosage?

In multiple studies, CBD has been shown to be safe for humans and rarely produces any side effects, even in doses as high as 1,500 mg per day.

So, based on the safety profile of CBD, you should feel comfortable and safe to test different levels of CBD to determine what works best for you.

Three (3) primary considerations in calculating your starting dosage of CBD.

There are 3 (three) factors that you need to consider when determining the right dosage of CBD (cannabiniol) for you and your needs.

  1. What is the health issue you are considering CBD for?
  2. What type of CBD product or method do you want to use to intake CBD?
  3. What is your body weight?

One: What is the health issue you are considering CBD for?

Start by reviewing the health problem or issue you feel CBD can address or improve for you. The severity and timing of this health issue will be a factor in determining the type of CBD you take and how often you will need to take it.

Here are some examples.

If you have inflammation due to arthritis, you may want to ingest CBD internally or use a topical CBD cream directly on the areas of inflammation and pain.

Chronic pain
If you are living with extreme chronic pain, you may require a higher dose administered daily.

Do you have chronic anxiety that requires a daily dose or do you have situational anxiety that you only need to address at a specific time?

Thinking about the issue you are trying to address will inform you on the best CBD product and dosage for your needs.

Two: What type of CBD product will best address your health issue and fits best in your lifestyle?

Let’s review the different types of CBD products available and your body’s ability to utilize the CBD in each type of product.

CBD edibles, powders, or capsules are taken orally and tend to have longer-lasting effects, but the digestive process will limit the amount of CBD that ends up in your system. This should be considered when determining your initial dosage of CBD.

CBD Oil or Tinctures

CBD oil or tincture is administered under the tongue (sublingually) and enters your bloodstream directly. This allows the CBD to go to work much faster.

CBD extracts inhaled with a vape pen provide the quickest effects, making them best for acute symptoms.

Topical Creams

CBD creams applied topically are used to treat targeted areas. The CBD topical can be massaged directly onto the area to relieve pain or inflammation.

Three: Body Weight

Your body weight is the primary number in calculating your initial dosage of CBD. From that you should make dosage adjustments based on the two additional factors listed above.

Calculating your initial CBD dosage

Start by determining a baseline CBD dosage. For a baseline dosage the recommended formula is 1 to 6 mg per 10 pounds of body weight.

This is a wide range which should be adjusted based on additional factors, the type of CBD product you purchase and the issue you want to address with CBD.condition
