How do I calculate the right CBD dosage for my dog?
With CBD research indicating benefits for pets, the market has exploded with new CBD products for your pets. If you are considering using CBD supplements for your dog, it is important to consider three factors in determining the right dosage of CBD for your dog.
The three critical factors to consider in calculating the right dosage for your dog are:
The issue or need you are trying to address for your dog.
Is it ongoing such as aging and arthritis that will require daily doses of CBD?
Or is it a temporary issue such as pain from a procedure that will only require CBD for a short period of time?
Or maybe it’s an event such as a stressful trip or other one-time situation your dog will be in?
The age of your dog.
A younger dog will be more active and may need a larger dose.
Older dogs are less active but may have more issues that will benefit from CBD requiring an adjustment in the dosage.
Your pet’s body weight.
Calculate a starting dosage using your pet’s body weight to determine the initial dosage. For each pound of body weight, the recommended dosage starts at 0.25 mg of CBD.
For instance, if your dog weighs 12 lbs, start with a CBD dosage of 3 mg.
You should closely monitor how your dog reacts to the CBD. Based on how your dog responds to the oil, you may need to increase or decrease the dosage to better fit their needs.
